The Crazytel CrazyPhone mobile softphone app transforms your smartphone into a powerful business phone system. This guide specifically focuses on how to properly configure and optimize your mobile softphone to receive incoming calls reliably, both within Australia and while traveling internationally.
International Call Reception
Important Note: With the CrazyPhone mobile softphone, you can receive calls overseas on your Australian VoIP numbers, including:
Local Australian numbers
Virtual Mobile Numbers
1300/1800 numbers
This means you can stay connected to your Australian contacts while traveling internationally, requiring only an internet connection. Please be aware: Crazytel physical SIM card mobile plans do not support international roaming. If you plan to travel overseas, using the CrazyPhone app with a VoIP number is the recommended solution for maintaining your Australian phone presence.
Country Restrictions
Important Warning: VoIP services are banned or restricted in some countries due to regulatory policies. The CrazyPhone app may not function in countries with VoIP restrictions, including:
China
United Arab Emirates (UAE)
Oman
Qatar
Kuwait
Saudi Arabia
North Korea
Some Caribbean nations
Before traveling, research the VoIP regulations at your destination to avoid connectivity issues. In some cases, VPN services might provide a workaround, but be aware that using VPNs may also violate local regulations in certain countries.
Prerequisites
Before you can receive calls on your mobile softphone, ensure you have:
An active Crazytel account with either:
A SIP Trunk subscription, or
A CrazyPBX Extension
The CrazyPhone app installed on your mobile device
Properly configured the app using a QR code (not manual credentials)
A stable internet connection (Wi-Fi or mobile data)
A phone number (DID) assigned to your SIP Trunk or Extension
Setting Up Call Reception
Step 1: Ensure Proper Configuration
First, make sure your softphone is properly configured:
Open the CrazyPhone app
Check that your status shows as "Registered" or "Available"
Verify that the correct SIP Trunk or Extension name is displayed
Ensure the app is allowed to run in the background
Step 2: Configure Device Settings
Optimize your device settings to ensure you don't miss calls:
iOS Devices:
Go to Settings > Notifications > CrazyPhone
Enable "Allow Notifications"
Set "Sounds" to On
Enable "Background App Refresh" for CrazyPhone
Android Devices:
Go to Settings > Apps > CrazyPhone > Notifications
Ensure notifications are enabled
Set to "Priority" or "Urgent" if available
Disable battery optimization for the CrazyPhone app
Step 3: Test Your Configuration
Place a test call to your Crazytel number from another phone
Verify that the CrazyPhone app rings and displays the incoming call
Test answering the call and check audio quality
Receiving Calls While Overseas
When traveling internationally:
Internet Connection: Connect to a reliable Wi-Fi network or purchase a local data SIM
App Configuration: No additional configuration is needed beyond the standard setup
Time Zone Awareness: Be mindful of the time difference between your location and Australia
Data Usage: Monitor your data usage as VoIP calls consume bandwidth
Call Quality: Call quality may vary based on your internet connection speed and stability
Common Call Reception Issues and Solutions
App Not Ringing
If the CrazyPhone app doesn't ring when you receive a call:
Check that your device is not on silent or Do Not Disturb mode
Verify that the app has notification permissions
Ensure the app is running (at least in the background)
Check for stable internet connectivity
Restart the app and/or your device
Call Goes to Voicemail Too Quickly
If calls go to voicemail before you can answer:
Increase the ring timeout in your Crazytel portal settings
Ensure your device isn't in battery saving mode which might restrict the app
Check that you don't have call forwarding set up incorrectly
Poor Call Quality
If you experience poor audio quality:
Switch to a more stable network connection
Close other apps that might be using bandwidth
Try moving to an area with better signal strength
Restart your device and/or your internet connection
Best Practices for Reliable Call Reception
Keep the App Updated: Always install the latest version of the CrazyPhone app
Use Wi-Fi When Possible: Wi-Fi generally provides more stable connectivity than mobile data
Background Running: Ensure the app is allowed to run in the background
Regular Testing: Periodically make test calls to ensure everything is working properly
Battery Management: Be aware that battery saving modes can affect the app's ability to receive calls
International Travel Preparation
If you plan to travel overseas and want to ensure reliable call reception:
Test Before Departure: Configure and test your softphone before leaving Australia
Download Updates: Update the app before traveling to avoid large downloads on international data
Research VoIP Restrictions: Check if your destination restricts VoIP services
Set Up Voicemail: Configure voicemail-to-email as a backup for missed calls
Inform Contacts: Let important contacts know you'll be overseas but reachable on your Australian number
